BEST SCHOOL OF ROCK
Where else but at Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum? Over the last decade, more than 4,000 preschoolers have congregated at the Hall for Toddler Rock, a program that helps kids develop socialization, literacy and language skills through music. And, for the older set, Rockin’ the Schools brings students from throughout Ohio through the door to learn how the songs their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents love continue to shake, rattle and roll. — Linda Feagler

BEST CRUMBS
Busken Bakery has been churning out some of Cincinnati’s best pastries since 1928. And while there are now 18 locations in the greater Cincinnati area, the treats are still as decadent as they were when Joe Busken Sr. opened his first bakery. Locals love the double-butter coffee cake and original sugar cookies with thick layers of icing, not to mention the rich chess pie. For those who don’t live in the area, Busken’s is happy to mail their sweets. — Jessica Esemplare

BEST PLACE FOR A FRIDAY NIGHT COFFEE DATE
Nothing beats a coffee date at the end of a long week, and Stauf’s Coffee Roasters in Grandview, located on the busiest strip in one of Columbus’ most charming communities, is the perfect spot for indulging in that wonderful mix of relaxation and caffeine. Since it opened in 1988, the micro-roaster has been a favorite among bean aficionados. Stauf’s is known for its high-quality product, knowledgeable baristas, unique retail items — think hand-blown glass coffeemakers and imaginative latte mugs — delicious sweets and warm, inviting and undeniably cool atmosphere. — Jennifer Rogers

BEST USE OF A BAGEL
Whether you order the “Lyle Loves It” featuring turkey, cheddar, onion, tomato and BBQ sauce, “My Big Fat Greek Bagel” with steamed mushrooms, onions, spinach, olives and feta cheese or the ever-popular cream cheese and bacon-topped “OU Bagel” — you’ll probably fall in love with Athens’ Bagel Street Deli. (But don’t take our word for it —the Ohio University alums we know say so!) And the best part? Nothing on the menu costs more than $6. — Marie Catanese

BEST BUILDING MAKEOVER
From a rundown Elks Lodge to an elegant restaurant, the makeover of the building housing Marley’s Downtown is a thing of beauty. The large eatery boasts a sprawling front patio overlooking the historic Auglaize County Courthouse. The interior has been spruced up with a stained-glass bar, leopard-print carpet and crystal chandeliers. Despite the décor (and a menu of pastas and steaks), Marley’s is a laid-back affair, welcoming both those looking for a romantic night out and those planning a family dinner. —Ilona Westfall
