It began as a nightmare of pandemic proportions: Carla Buckley and her family have just moved to Ohio from Maryland, when news breaks about a flu virus spreading like wildfire around the world. The lethal bug is killing thousands by the hour — including residents of her neighborhood. One morning, a young woman pounds on the front door. Ravaged by fever and holding an infant, she pleads with Buckley to save her son, who is still healthy.

Buckley’s heart bleeds for her.

But should she open the door and agree to take the baby in? If Buckley does, she’ll be putting her life, as well as the lives of her husband and their three children, at serious risk.
