New Year's Eve Walleye Drop
Port Clinton
Wylie the Walleye was born in 1997 and made simply of paper mache. Now, 20-plus years later, there are still thousands that brave the cold and gather for hours awaiting Wylie the Walleye to Drop as a New Year begins. Port Clinton is the walleye capital of the world, so what else would be dropped on New Year's Eve but the brand new, LED-lit, 20-foot, 600-pound walleye at the stroke of midnight with a spectacular fireworks show to follow. The original Wylie is on display for photo ops at the Lake Erie Shores & Islands Welcome Center in Port Clinton.
