Create your own adventure in Greater Akron!
The possibilities for fun in Summit County are endless, and closer to home than you may think.
Akron is home to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, the former estate of Goodyear Tire & Rubber cofounder F.A. Seiberling. The estate features a historic 65-room Tudor Revival Manor House, a recently restored Gate Lodge and approximately 70 acres of artistically landscaped grounds and formal gardens. Spring and summer are perfect for taking a stroll through the enchanted gardens. Nearly 95% of the furnishings inside the Manor House are original to the estate! The name Stan Hywet is Old English for stone quarry — after the property’s most prominent natural feature. Stan Hywet is also the sixth-largest historic home open to the public and is Akron’s first and largest National Historic Landmark.
Hiking the trails of the Summit Metro Parks or the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) is a great way to enjoy the beauty of the warmer weather. Take the family out for a hike or a bike ride to explore the wonder of nature. Summit Metro Parks consists of 16 parks, over 15,000 acres and more than 150 miles of trails. CVNP was the ninth-most visited national park in the U.S. in 2022 and boasts 33,000 acres of unimaginably beautiful scenery. It’s also home to Brandywine Falls, one of Ohio’s largest waterfalls at over 60 feet!
The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is a heritage railroad operating within CVNP. The railroad has excursions for everyone year-round. There is an Explorer program where riders can board a train while they are biking, running or hiking through the park. They also have special excursions and events that are fun for the whole family or make a great night out. Have Breakfast Along the Cuyahoga, take part in a murder mystery, show off your artistry during a Canvas & Wine trip or have a night out with Cocktails on Rails.
The Akron Zoo is home to over 2,000 animals from around the world, including lions, snow leopards, penguins, snakes, bears and more. The zoo is open year-round, with different admissions pricing depending on the season or special events. There are eight themed areas throughout the zoo, from Asia to Africa and South America to North America. Events are always happening at the zoo! Enjoy time together for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. The annual Brew at the Zoo takes place in June, the Snow Leopard Spotlight and Murder Mystery are coming up in June, and there’s a Wine and Paint night in July. With so much to see and do, everyone is sure to have a wild time!
What better way to spend the summer nights than under the stars at a concert? Blossom Music Center is an outdoor amphitheater that hosts a variety of popular music including country, rock and rap. Catch some of the best symphonic performances as it’s also the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra.
