Baseball? We’ve got it. Animals from around the world? We have those too. History and art? Yep — they are on the list.
The Akron RubberDucks, a Minor League Baseball team, are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians. Canal Park is a state-of-the-art facility with fantastic food options and activities for the kids. They frequently host special events and promotions, along with fireworks nights!
Akron is home to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, the former estate of Goodyear Tire & Rubber cofounder F.A. Seiberling. The estate features an historic 65-room Tudor Revival Manor House, a recently restored Gate Lodge and approximately 70 acres of artistically landscaped grounds and formal gardens.
Hiking the trails of the Summit Metro Parks or the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) is a great way to enjoy the warmer weather. Take the family out for a hike or a bike ride. Summit Metro Parks consists of 16 parks, over 15,000 acres and more than 150 miles of trails. The CVNP boasts 33,000 acres of unimaginably beautiful scenery. It’s also home to Brandywine Falls, one of Ohio’s largest waterfalls at over 60 feet!
The Akron Zoo is home to over 2,000 animals from around the world, including lions, snow leopards, penguins, snakes, bears and more. The zoo is open year-round, with different admissions pricing depending on the season or special events. Events are always happening at the zoo and with so much to see and do, everyone is sure to have a wild time!
The Akron Marathon Race Series, presented by Summa Health, is a pinnacle event each year. This is a three-race series that kicks off in June with the National Interstate Insurance 8K & 1 Mile. The Goodyear Half Marathon & 10K is up next in August and takes place at Goodyear World Headquarters. In September, the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon and Team Relay rounds out the trifecta. This marquee event is a tour through Akron and highlights major landmarks, neighborhoods and parks.
What better way to spend the summer nights than under the stars at a concert? Blossom Music Center is an outdoor amphitheater that hosts a variety of popular music including country, rock and rap. Catch some of the best symphonic performances as it’s also the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra.
Summer is the perfect time for water sports. Paddle the River in Cuyahoga Falls offers kayak trips on the heritage portion of the Cuyahoga River. If you don’t have your own kayak, no worries! They have rentals available. If relaxation on the river is more suited to your interests, then try Float the River. Take in the scenic views as you float along the river in a tube. This adventure is approximately two hours, and their team will ensure you have everything you need.
