Apple Orchards, Corn Mazes and Three State Parks
We invite you to come and celebrate fall with us in Portage County. Enjoy our vivid colors, autumn events, and warm hospitality.
If you love all things fall, Portage County is your place.
Starting in late September the county’s trees start their gradual turn to create a spectacular show of color around the second and third week of October. Our fields take on a beautiful golden hue, and migratory birds can be seen flying through the county as they make their trek south.
Rich in history and color, Portage County welcomes tourists who want to get out and enjoy all that autumn has to offer. From our three state parks to our apple orchards, corn mazes and fall events, Portage County really knows how to celebrate the season.
This fall we invite you to come and explore the unique rock formations at Nelson Kennedy Ledges State Park. Enjoy a relaxing fall kayak ride down the Cuyahoga River or on one of our lakes. Select your favorite apples at one of our orchards, get lost in one of our corn mazes, spend time fishing off the new 200-foot floating bridge at Wingfoot Lake State Park, or just enjoy a park bench underneath a canopy of fall color. Whether you are looking for outdoor adventures or just fall scenery, we look forward to welcoming you.
If you enjoy fall camping, West Branch State Park is open year-round. Nothing feels more like fall than being wrapped in a blanket around a warm campfire, enjoying s'mores; all while listening to the crackling of the wood and watching the sparks rise toward the stars.
A trip to our area would not be complete without a fall visit to Haymakers Farmer’s Market in Kent. Every Saturday morning you will find fresh produce, locally sourced meats and cheeses, preserves, wood-fired baked breads, delicious small-batch treats, and so much more. You just may want to bring your cooler.
Fall shopping? No worries. You will enjoy exploring our antique shops, unique boutiques, art galleries and outlet mall. All are perfect stops when searching for new autumn decor or that beautiful fall sweater.
For those who prefer to relax on an outdoor patio while enjoying the fall air with a glass of wine, Barrel Run Crossing Winery and Vineyard is just a short distance from Downtown Kent and area hotels. The winery offers a nice selection of red and white wines.
If craft beer is more your taste, stop at the North Water Brewing Co, where you can try their Pumpkin Spice Latte West End White Stout or any one of their other crafted IPAs or ales.
Coffee lovers can also rejoice! Downtown Kent has three local coffee shops to choose from, each offering their unique brews and special fall drinks. And for vinyl and book lovers, Last Exit Books and Coffee House is Kent’s independent bookstore that buys and sells books and vinyl records. A great place to stock up on your cold month reads.
