3 Things to Know About Cedar Point’s New Coaster

The Sandusky amusement park’s latest ride, Siren’s Curse, arrives summer 2025. Here is what we’re most looking forward to about the ride.

Some of us here were old enough to remember waiting in line for the Demon Drop during the summer of 1983. That ride (which started with two hours of anticipation before a ride that lasted just a few seconds) was fun, but ever since then, Cedar Point’s quest to build taller, faster and more amazing roller coasters has intensified tenfold, with subsequent creations like Millennium Force, Steel Vengeance and Top Thrill Dragster becoming the stuff of thrill-ride legend. So, any time Cedar Point does a big reveal, which the amusement park did on Sept. 19, it’s a big deal.

This brings us to Siren’s Curse, a new variety of coaster for Cedar Point. First off, it’s the tallest (160 feet), longest (2,966 feet of track) and fastest (58 miles per hour) tilt coaster in North America. It will be located across from Iron Dragon near the Cedar Point Marina. After watching the YouTube video of the ride on loop, here are three things we’re most looking forward to about Cedar Point’s newest creation.

1. The Tilt: For an amusement park that has already created a variety of ways to thrill us, a tilt coaster covers new ground. Once reaching the top of the first tower, riders will balance precariously on a stretch of “broken” track that teeters forward before reaching 90 degrees and connecting with the track below. Tilt coasters are a relatively new creation in the roller coaster world, with Coasterpedia documenting the first as Winja’s Fear & Force, which debuted at Phantasialand in Germany in 2002. Just six have opened since, with the only one in the United States being Universal Studios’ Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. Three are currently under construction, including Siren’s Curse.

2. The Nautical Theme: For an amusement park that sits along Lake Erie, the park’s big-name rides have never really embraced the idea of setting sail. But Siren’s Curse incorporates the lore of the mythical creatures rumored to lure sailors to the bottom of the murky deep with their alluring songs. The Sept. 19 release from the amusement park noted that the ride would “also feature two firsts for Cedar Point.” The first is on-board audio, “allowing the sound of the siren to envelop you as you escape her grasp.” The second is high-tech LED lighting on the outside of each coaster car “mimicking the silky motion and eerie nature of the mythical creature...”

3. The Airtime: One of the most important parts of any roller coaster experience is what happens after the first hill. Does it deliver the sort of adrenaline-inducing twists and turns that will have you wanting to brave the long line all over again for another ride? Siren’s Curse certainly seems to do so, with 2,966 feet of track. After the ride plunges from the tower, riders experience “13 weightless airtime moments, two 360-degree, zero-gravity barrel rolls and a high-speed ‘triple-down’ element with twisted and overbanked track.” (We have no idea what that last bit means, but it sounds cool to us.) Of course, like any of the park’s wild rides, guests must be 48 inches tall or taller to hop aboard Siren’s Curse.
