Boston Mills, Alpine Valley and Mad River Mountain Announce 2024 Opening Day

You can hit the slopes at these Ohio ski resorts starting Dec. 13 and special events will mark the occasion at each location. 

If you’ve been looking to hit the slopes on skis or snowboard at northeast Ohio’s ski resorts in Summit, Geauga and Logan counties, the wait will be over at 3 p.m., Dec. 13. Peninsula’s Boston Mills Ski Resort and Chesterland’s Alpine Valley Resort and Zanesfield’s Mad River Mountain will kick off their seasons this Friday, celebrating with a first chair banner break, swag giveaways, music and free doughnuts while supplies last.

While Brandywine Ski Resort (Boston Mills’ sister location in Cuyahoga Valley National Park) is set to open later this month. Alpine Valley will be open Dec. 13 through 15, close for five days and open for daily operations on Dec. 20. Since the first day of December, each location has employed its snow-making system in anticipation of a successful season. Boston Mills-Brandywine, Alpine Valley and Mad River Mountain are all owned by by Colorado-based Vail Resorts.

“Immense gratitude goes out to our snowmaking teams and every team member who has worked tirelessly to make opening day a reality,” Jake Campbell, general manager of both Boston Mills and Alpine Valley, said in a Dec. 9 press release announcing the opening dates. “Here’s to the start of an incredible season on the slopes!”

In early 2025, Boston Mills will offer special events like “Late Night x College ID Nights,” which include extended hours and exclusive deals, as well as live music with their Joy Rider’s Music Series and an end-of-season Winter Carnival.

On Jan. 11, Alpine Valley turns 60 and will celebrate with sweet treats, live music and giveaways. Visitors are also encouraged to wear throwback ski gear in honor of the Retro Day celebration. Check the website for select Dew After Dark nights too, during which Alpine Valley will be open until midnight.
